Navarathna Samarpanam:
During Pranaprathishta of any deity, it is customary to offer personal valuables such as gold rings, ear rings, chains, gold, silver and copper coins as well as Navarathna to be put on earth under the deity prior to installation. The purpose is to establish a connection between the offering devotee and the God vigraham being installed. Once the Pranaprathishta rituals are completed, the Vigraham is a living deity and is to be treated as such. The rituals conducted with devotion/bhakthi form an eternal connection between the Vigraham and the God; so when we worship the Vigraham in the Temple we are directly worshipping GOD. Hence, whatever we offer as our Samarpanam establishes the same level of connection between you the devotee who made the offering and the GOD who was installed.
When you offer Navarathna, you are making a connection between your soul and GOD. This is because, the Navarathna were formed during the Creation of the Universe and each of us are connected to the respective Navarathna through our individual Nakshatras and hence through our Raasis. The Raasis in turn are based on the position of the planets at the time of our birth. Following is the representation of Raasi by one of the Navarathna:
- Mesha (Aries) by Red coral
- Rishabham (Taurus) by White Diamond and Opel
- Mithunam (Gemini) by Emerald
- Katakam (Cancer) by Pearl
- Simham (Leo) by Ruby
- Kanya (Virgo) by Green Sapphire/ Emerald
- Tula (Libra) by Diamond
- Vrishchika (Scorpio) by Coral / Onyx
- Dhanus (Sagittarius)

When a devotee offers a particular Navarathna that is compatible with the person’s Raasi during Navarathna Samarpanam, the devotee in turn is eternally connected to the God being installed. Each member in a family may have a specific Raasi and so the Rathna being offered should be the one that is compatible with the Raasi of that family member.
However, the ultimate goal of the devotee should be to continue the connection established through Navarathna Samarpanam with God by sustained Bhakthi and devotion at all times.
