Sundara Kanda Parayanam

Srirama Navami is on Friday, April-19-2013.  (Parayanam will start on Ugadhi day and will continue for 9 days until Srirama Navami. Everyday, the Parayanam will be from 7:30 PM to 9PM. The first day (Ugadhi day), it will be starting at 8:15 PM, after all the Ugadhi activities.

Parayanam:

Sundara Kandam begins with Hanuman commencing his search for mother Sita. From Skandhamana Parvatham, Hanuman crosses the ocean to Lanka and finds mother Sita in Ashoka Vanam. He identifies himself as Lord Rama’s Dootha by giving Lord Rama’s Ring. Hanuman returns to Rama and shares his meeting with mother Sita and the incidents at Lanka. Kandam means section and Sundara Kandam is considered to be the most auspicious amongst RamayanA. Sundara (beautiful) is one of the names of Hanuman. This kandam portrays Hanuman’s achievements, his self-confidence, devotion to his Swami Rama, fearlessness, trustworthiness.

Sundara Kandam teaches us to practice Dharma. Sundara Kanda parayanam results in prosperity, mitigation of all problems. It is said that reading a Sargam (Chapter) of Sundara Kandam is equal to chanting Gayathri Mantra 1000 times.
